Perennial Favourites Return in 2023
As in all great offshores the commitment of longstanding competitors is paramount to the ongoing success of the Race.
Stalwart competitors like Peter Churchouse in his Custom Warwick 64, Moonblue 2, is returning for a seventh Rolex China Sea Race in 2023. Moonblue 2 took 3rd in the IRC Premier Division in 2008, 2012 and 2014. This year Churchouse is back with an experienced offshore crew with combined 20+ China Sea Race / San Fernando races under their belt.
Also with extensive blue water experience is Nick Southward who is a regular on the Asian offshore circuit. Southward’s J-109, Whiskey Jack returns for a fourth Rolex China Sea Race, with a full crew on board. Whiskey Jack took 2nd place in the IRC 2 Division in 2012 and 3rd in the IRC 2 Division in 2016 when she raced as a double-handed entry!
Eddy Lee has been a consistent face of the Rolex China Sea Race having previously participated four times - three of which were on Bavaria 55 Clove Hitch and this time he is joining the fleet with his Sense 46 Generations. Lee is taking to the start line with a crew that has five offshores to the Philippines, along with multiple blue water races to Taiwan, Hainan and over 10 races from Shenzen to Xiamen.
Another regular participant to the Asian Offshore scene is Jinn; Nicolas Cohen-Addad’s J122e. Cohen-Addad is set to add the flagship offshore Rolex China Sea Race to his offshore list which currently includes the Hong Kong to Vietnam Race and the Hong Kong Puerto Galera Race. While this will be his debut in the China Sea Race, his passion for racing offshore sees him returning annually to all the great Asian offshore races.
